Our history

UBC’22 began in February 2022, with war breaking out on our borders in Ukraine. Then, several churches in Bucharest joined together and started asking how they can help people in need. Thus, we opened several centers and initiated convoys in the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine to provide support.

Over time, people from different parts of the world gathered to show God’s love and come to the aid of those in distress, offering them shelter, food and transportation, both in Ukraine and Moldova. I even made it to Turkey.

In 2023, after the earthquakes in Turkey, I felt the need to help the local church. With the help of our volunteers, we managed to organize two convoys to different affected areas in Turkey. In the first convoy, we brought help by providing tents, blankets and food, setting up tents in the camps of the victims. In the second convoy, we built 10 houses and installed water purification systems in the disaster camps.

On one of our visits to Turkey, a local organization challenged us to get more involved than in Ukraine and Turkey. Then we thought about how UBC can be a tool to help local churches, not only in Ukraine and Turkey, but also in other contexts, including Romania. We realized that in our unity and diversity, with people from Ukraine, the Republic of Moldova, Romania, the USA, Norway and other countries, we can support the local church to help people in need.

This was the moment when God gave us a new vision for UBC 22. If until then we were known as Ukrainian Bucharest Churches 2022, seeking to unite the Ukrainian and Bucharest churches in 2022, God gave us a new vision. We have become United Beyond Cause, uniting beyond the cause we serve, beyond the context in which we find ourselves. We are united by the love of God, faith in God and the call to help those in need.

For example, in December 2023, in the Buzău area, we organized a one-day VBS for 350 children from disadvantaged backgrounds, thus supporting the local church and offering help to both children and parents during the winter holidays.

So UBC is not just about a country, a community, an ethnicity or a nationality. UBC 22 aims to support the local church that serves the community in which it is located and, in particular, those in need: disadvantaged families, disaster victims, refugees, people living in difficult contexts, children without access to education or families living in unfavorable conditions. UBC comes together with the local church and seeks solutions to bless others.

The local church not only receives support, but also gives it. UBC 22 is a tool that local churches use to support other local churches in showing God’s love.

So far, UBC 22 has gathered hundreds of churches around the world, either through prayer, sending people, or financial or material support. UBC 22 is a community of volunteers who, united by faith in Christ, come to support the local church and bless it through the work it does in its community.

We invite you to be part of our mission by getting involved in any way you can.
